Inner West Cultural Service

I joined IWCS last Novmber when a fellow TAFE student joined the Management Committee and wanted to revamp the organisation after it has been in decline for a while. IWCS is very fortunate to have its own property in Newtown with a gorgeous little heritage hall. The hertitage listing of the hall means that many of the ‘dirty’ art forms can’t be practiced there and wall hanging and exhibition lighting is out of the question too so re-invigorating the centre will need to revolve around music, literature, cinema and community trading projects for now. I’ve joined the Artists Reference Group which is a small body of artists who might be willing to lead projects. I say ‘might’ because income vs time management is an issue for many. The artists are looking for income opportunities but community projects often take a lot of time and organisation and I’m not sure how many have experience and/or skills. Diane is looking to me to lead on the project organisation a bit but I’m really committed to COWBelles and the Salvos Projects, also the music, literature, cinema direction is not my thing so I’m not sure I can give alot for now, see how things play out. Diane has asked me to consider joining the Management Committee but I don’t know about my commitment to that either. COWBelles and the Salvos Waterloo projects are my priority and Dianne of PCAI has asked me to consider the Management Committe as well but again my prioirities are not there for now either. The AGM for the organisation is on 25th May, will see what comes up there.
